Physical objects are not so easily reproduced but the information for making them is.

Collaborative Open Design and Prototyping of Hardware Systems?
For some time now, I have been working on a website that allows for large groups of people to develop complex system designs and prototype them. The site is called Protoforge.org or Protoforge.net, whichever you prefer. I hope to have the alpha release up in the next couple of weeks and will try to maintain a blog of my adventures here.
