Private industry participation in Chandrayaan
It was really great to read newspaper reports quoting Chandrayaan-I Project Director, M Annadurai acknowledging the help of the private industry in sending India's first mission to the moon. Apparently, private players (big and small) have contributed as much as 30% of the project. Also, ISRO had provided technical traning and transferred necessary technology.
Greater private participation is great news for India. It is likely to benefit both ISRO and the industry concerned. ISRO can now concentrate on its real job - research and development, while Antrix and private industry can work together to address the requirements of the nation. Private industry, if allowed, can also provide its cheaper services to customers from all over the world which will allow them to compete with global multinationals.
It is also great news for students - as this means greater oppertunities for students in aerospace engineering and space science coming out of institutes of excellence in India.

Indian industry is quite active in the civilian aerospace industry in India. The surprising thing is that it has already been included in a mission of the range of Chandrayaan.
